The ability to concentrate on the picture you want is essential in professional photography. This is why the intuitive handling concept of the Leica S2 can get by with a minimum of control elements. All functions are displayed in the menu on its generously dimensioned monitor screen. Convenient activation and menu navigation are ensured by four ergonomically located buttons and the click wheel.
The ergonomically formed handgrip and favourable centre of gravity of the Leica S2 ensure superior handling and make it ideal for fatigue-free photography. In comparison with traditional medium-format systems, where a digital back shares the same camera body with a film back, the S2 offers the advantages of ergonomically designed and located controls.
The large 3" TFT panel on the back of the camera guarantees a bright and clear view even in strong light. It enables precise evaluation of sharpness and – a special feature of Leica digital cameras – the optional display of exposure parameters and a histogram for close examination and assessment of the currently visible portion of the image.
The camera has two memory card slots for writing data simultaneously to CompactFlash and SD cards. The advantages: increased memory capacity and faster write speeds. The workflow also becomes easier, as DNG files for processing and JPEGs for immediate image review can be saved separately on different cards.
Thanks to dust- and splash-proof interfaces, the Leica S2 works ideally with peripherals even when conditions are tough. A USB 2.0 high-speed port provides a fast cable connection to Macs or PCs. This allows data transfer and remote control of the camera. The camera can also be connected to an HD TV for precise image review.
The power source of the Leica S2 is designed for reliability and readiness, even on prolonged shoots. Despite their compact size, every battery has enough power for around 1,000 exposures. A professional charger for two batteries is available as an optional accessory.
